The Lindenhof, a Roman fort in the 4th century and later the site of a palace built by Charlemagne's grandson, looks over the old town, the Limmat, the Grossmünster and the university. The Grossmünster, Zurich's landmark, has stained glass by Sigmar Polke, choir windows by Augusto Giacometti and 187 steps up the Karlsturm to a view over the old town and the lake. A two-hour route through the old town is marked on the city map from the Visitor Information at the main station.
The Planet Trail is a two-hour walk on an elevated trail, suitable for the whole family. In the old town the streets are partly cobbled.
Until 12 December 2026 the SZU station at Zurich main station is closed for construction: the trains to the Uetliberg and to Adliswil start at Zürich Selnau, and SBB and ZVV recommend trams and buses to get there. Back from the Felsenegg by cable car to Adliswil, then 10 minutes on foot to Adliswil station. The Felsenegg cable car is closed for maintenance in March 2027. The Zürich Card covers the Uetliberg train and the way back from the Felsenegg.
