Tre Cime di Lavaredo: Loop from the Auronzo Hut

The Tre Cime di Lavaredo, the Große Zinne, Westliche Zinne and Kleine Zinne, are the landmark of the Drei Zinnen region and part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009. The loop at their foot is one of the classic Dolomites hikes, on well-made paths that suit less experienced walkers too.

Difficulty: Well-made paths, also suitable for less experienced walkers. Wear sturdy shoes; the weather can change quickly.
Season: June to September, when the paths are mostly free of snow; autumn is quieter. The toll road is generally open from the end of May to the end of October.
Getting there: By bus line 444 from Toblach/Dobbiaco to the Auronzo hut; book online in advance. By car on the toll road of the municipality of Auronzo di Cadore, from Prati di Rimbianco near Lago d'Antorno to the car park at the hut: generally open from the end of May to the end of October, weather permitting, and only with an online booking that includes the vehicle's number plate; a ticket is valid for 12 hours. The road can be closed for safety in bad weather or road conditions.
Winter: In winter the toll road is closed. The Auronzo hut usually opens at weekends (bar and restaurant only) and is reached from Lake Misurina or Lago d'Antorno on foot, on snowshoes or touring skis. Check the weather and avalanche bulletin first.
