Cinque Torri & Lagazuoi: Great War trails
About this guide
In the First World War the front between Italy and Austria-Hungary ran across the Lagazuoi and the Cinque Torri above Passo Falzarego. Italian troops dug tunnels into the Piccolo Lagazuoi from the Cengia Martini to surprise the Austrian positions on the summit; the Austrians supplied their posts by the path now called the Kaiserjäger trail. Around the Cinque Torri, restored trenches and positions form an open-air museum with information boards in Italian, German and English.
- Difficulty
Cinque Torri museum paths: mountain paths; walking boots needed. Kaiserjäger trail: an equipped trail with some exposed sections, well secured with fixed ropes. Lagazuoi tunnels: via ferrata kit, gloves and helmet required, and a torch or headlamp; some sections are very low and dark.

- Getting there
The Kaiserjäger trail starts at the Lagazuoi cable car car park at Passo Falzarego; the Cinque Torri chairlift leaves from Bai de Dones.
