Fürstensteig & Drei Schwestern

🇱🇮 Alp Gaflei, Triesenberg, Liechtenstein

2Routes

About this guide

The Fürstensteig is one of the most famous paths in the Rätikon and the classic high-altitude route in Liechtenstein, high above Vaduz and Schaan. From the Gafleisattel a panoramic ridge path links it with the Drei-Schwestern-Steig; the Kuegrat (2,123 m) on the way looks out over the Rätikon and the Swiss and Vorarlberg mountains, and down the Rhine valley as far as Lake Constance.

Difficulty

Fürstensteig loop: exposed sections secured with wire ropes and railings. Drei Schwestern traverse: secured rocky paths and exposed ridge sections, including a section signed as alpine trail. On both, sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential; keep children on a rope.

Season

June to October. Depending on the season and the weather, the routes may be closed or interrupted, and snowfields can lie into late spring; check current conditions with Liechtenstein Tourism before you go.

Getting there

Both routes start at Gaflei: bus 21 from Vaduz, Post to Triesenberg, Dorfzentrum, then bus 22 to Gaflei, Klinik (about 30 minutes); by car via Triesenberg to the Gaflei car park. The traverse ends in Planken: bus 26 from Planken, Abzw. Egerta to Schaan, then on to Vaduz.

Food & drink

Gaflei-Stube at the Gaflei car park; Gafadurahütte on the traverse, summer season (current dates on the hut's page).
