About this guide
Malbun, at about 1,600 m in the Liechtenstein Alps, is the starting point for two of the principality's best-known mountain hikes. The Fürstin-Gina-Weg is named after Princess Gina of Liechtenstein, mother of the reigning Prince Hans-Adam II; the Schönberg, covered in flowers in June and July, looks out over the Rätikon and across the Rhine valley to the Churfirsten and the Säntis.
- Difficulty
Both on white-red-white mountain trails. Fürstin-Gina-Weg: the ridge path to the Pfälzerhütte is steep in places, with exposed spots secured by cables, and needs very good fitness. Schönberg: a narrow, partly secured mountain path; until June, snow at exposed spots can make it harder.
- Season
June to September for the Fürstin-Gina-Weg, June to October for the Schönberg; routes can be closed depending on season and weather. Current dates: see Liechtensteiner Alpenverein. The Sareis chairlift runs until 18 October 2026.
- Getting there
Bus 21 from Vaduz to Malbun (about 30 minutes); both loops start at the Malbun, Jöraboda stop by the car parks at the village entrance.
