Innsbruck & Nordkette: Goetheweg & Arzler Alm
About this guide
Three cable car sections take you from Innsbruck's old town to the Hafelekar station at 2,256 m, below the 2,334 m Hafelekar, the "Top of Innsbruck", with a view into the Karwendel Nature Park. At the top stations, short walks such as the Nordkette Perspectives Trail by Snøhetta and the Geotrail lead to viewpoints; the Goetheweg is the high route along the ridge.
- Difficulty
The Goetheweg is an alpine mountain path for experienced mountain walkers. The Perspectives Trail is suitable for families with children.

Nordkettenbahnen: summer season 2026 25.04.2026 – 01.11.2026; closed for maintenance 02.11.2026 – 19.11.2026; winter season 2026/27 20.11.2026 – 25.04.2027; closed for maintenance 26.04.2027 – 30.04.2027. The Pfeishütte is open from mid-June to mid-October.
- Getting there
The Hungerburgbahn starts at the Congress station (Rennweg 3) by the old town.
- Winter
Around the Hafelekar station, a secured winter hiking trail is open to everyone; it closes in uncertain weather or snow conditions.
- Food & drink
Restaurant Seegrube (open all year), Restaurant Top of Innsbruck at the Hafelekar station (2,256 m, during the lift's operating hours), Pfeishütte at the end of the Goetheweg. Arzler Alm, Rumer Alm and Enzianhütte on the forest loop above the Hungerburg.
