Sentier des Chamois & Cabane de Louvie

🇨🇭 Verbier, Valais

2Routes

About this guide

The Sentier des Chamois runs through the Haut Val de Bagnes nature reserve, the second largest in Switzerland, high above the valley floor. It is not uncommon to spot chamois, ibex or marmots, and from the Col Termin the view reaches the glaciers of the Combin massif. The Cabane de Louvie stands above its lake at 2,250 m.

Difficulty

Steep mountain path with a few exposed sections, not for those with a fear of heights: sure footing and a head for heights are needed, especially at the Col Termin, and the descents to the Lac de Louvie and to Fionnay are very steep. The path from Fionnay to the lake climbs gradually.

Season

Best from June to October. The Cabane de Louvie is usually open from late May to early October; current dates on the hut's website.

Getting there

By train via Martigny to Le Châble, then the gondola via Verbier to La Chaux; free parking at the cable cars in Le Châble. Back from Fionnay by postbus to Le Châble. The lake route starts at the car park in Fionnay.

Food & drink

Cabane de Louvie by the lake, with meals and beds; restaurants at La Chaux and in Fionnay.
